From the initial reduced-level excavation and piling platform through to the silo base excavations, pile cropping, blinding, ducting and drainage, Carbon Neutral Construction delivered a comprehensive groundworks package for the Gladstone project.
Working in a demanding live construction environment, our experienced team, plant and operators enabled us to provide a coordinated and efficient groundworks solution, supporting the wider project team from the early enabling works through to the preparation of the site for the next stages of construction.
Pile mat
As part of our commitment to delivering the project with a reduced environmental impact, Carbon Neutral Construction carried out the reduced-level dig and installation of the piling mat, providing a stable and suitable working platform for the piling operations.
Our team worked closely with the CFA piling contractor throughout the piling phase, providing a dedicated 360 excavator and experienced operator to assist with piling operations, material movements and general site requirements. This enabled the piling works to progress efficiently while maintaining a safe and well-organised working environment.
Excavation and Cropping
Following completion of the piling works, Carbon Neutral Construction undertook the excavation of the four silo bases, removing approximately 600m³ of material to achieve the required formation levels and prepare the bases for construction.
Our works included the cropping of the piles to the specified levels, ensuring the pile heads were prepared ready for integration into the reinforced concrete silo foundations.
We also provided support throughout the foundation preparation, including the lifting and positioning of reinforcement and assisting with the placement and pouring of the concrete blinding layer. This created a clean, level and suitable working surface for the subsequent reinforced concrete works.
Ducting and Drainage
Carbon Neutral Construction also delivered the below-ground ducting and drainage infrastructure associated with the silo installation.
Our team excavated and installed approximately 200m of 225mm ducting, carefully coordinating the works around the silo foundations and other site infrastructure. The installation included preparation of the trenches, laying and positioning of the ducting, maintaining the required levels and falls, and subsequent backfilling and reinstatement.
The ducting and drainage works were carefully sequenced alongside the wider construction programme to minimise disruption and ensure the necessary services were installed ahead of subsequent phases of the project.
External Slab Preparation
Carbon Neutral Construction also delivered the complete groundworks preparation for the external slab areas at Gladstone.
Our scope commenced with the reduced-level excavation (RL dig), bringing the existing ground down to the required formation levels and preparing the areas for the slab construction.
Following excavation, our team supplied, placed and levelled the required stone sub-base, working accurately to the specified formation and finished levels. The stone was then thoroughly compacted in controlled layers to achieve the required density, stability and load-bearing capacity ahead of the concrete slab installation.
All preparation works were carefully coordinated with the wider construction programme, ensuring the external slab areas were handed over level, compacted and ready for the subsequent concrete works.
